Missouri State Treasurer Clint Zweifel said that they have more than $600 million in unclaimed funds – money – property and cash in more than 3.5 million owner accounts. He also goes on to states that people average $350 of Missouri claimed money when they finally locate it. He has reported that 1 of 10 Missourians has Unclaimed Property just waiting for them to make claim on it.
Clint has returned more than $83 million in unclaimed property & money since taking office in Jan. 12, 2009. He is proud that he cut the waiting period by half once you submit your claim. You can get it faster once you put a claim on it now where in the past it was a very slow process.
Clint jokingly says about all the unclaimed Missouri funds that it’s ‘Missouri’s Largest Lost and Found’. He wants to give every penny back to the rightful owners so he wants all Missourians not to delay and to check right now to see if they have any Missouri unclaimed cash waiting for them.
One person in Missouri claimed 6.1 million dollars she never knew existed. How can this happen. Distant relatives had stock in a company which was passed onto her because of family deaths over the years. the stock grew from acqusitions and buyouts and over the years grew to 6.1 million dollars. Wow!
This is all hard to believe but you can easily see how this sort of thing happens when it comes to Missouri unclaimed money which was never claimed by the original owners and then it turns into an inheritance which kept on growing over the years. The original owners most likely gave up on keeping track of the stock or were just financially ignorant.
Whatever the case may be there are hundreds or thousands more stories that are similar on how the money grows over the years and gets misplaced because people move and forget about stocks or dividends as being insignificant to worry about. Then these same individuals may get sick or pass away with their son/daughter taking over and for some reason loose whatever paperwork there is on the missing money, or property. This person may then also die and things get really missing on a larger scale where it’s totally lost and is then finally classified as unclaimed Missouri money.
